La députée défaite Fatima Houda-Pepin n’a laissé aucun dossier permettant de faire le lien avec ses 20 ans comme élue de La Pinière. Tout ce qu’il y avait, c’est un grille-pain et quelques blocs de feuilles blanches.

But on Monday, Houda-Pepin said in an interview that Quebec’s rules on the protection of privacy gave her no choice but to shred her files because they contained personal information, names of relatives, social insurance numbers and even income tax records.

When he was elected in 2012 as the Parti Québécois MNA for Laval-des-Rapides, Léo Bureau-Blouin was shocked to find the outgoing Liberal Alain Paquet had destroyed his files.
In his 18 months as an MNA, Bureau-Blouin dealt with between 200 and 300 constituent’s files, and 15 were not resolved when Bureau-Blouin lost to Liberal Saul Polo on April 7.
To get around the confidentiality requirement, Bureau-Blouin asked his constituents to sign a document consenting to the transfer of their files to the new MNA.
