Welcome to the fat capital of Britain: one in three adults in Tamworth, Staffordshire, is now officially classed as obese and most of the children aren’t far behind.

Nationally, 24 per cent of men and 26 per cent of women are obese

Prevention doesn’t seem to be high on the residents’ list of priorities. This is a fat town getting fatter; and what’s more no one has the faintest idea — either at an individual or at a community level — what to do about it. It’s like a place that’s pressed a self-destruct button, and the means of extinction is death by overeating.
